Ultimate Disaster - For progress… + intervju

Någon gång ibland händer det att man stöter på en platta som direkt sätter sig och allt bara känns rätt och riktigt och man tänker att satan i gatan va bra detta är. Exakt så var det när jag hörde ”For progress…”  första gången.

Ultimate Disaster kommer från Richmond Virginia och spelar d-takt i den äldre skolan. Det märks att det finns rutin bakom instrumenten och att de kan sitt hantverk. Produktionen är sådär lagomt rå och ruff. Skruvar du upp volymen ordentligt och sluter ögonen så känns det nästan som att bandet står där i ditt vardagsrum och spelar bara för dig. 

Allt på ”For progress…” känns angeläget och livsviktigt. Alla låtar på plattan är en vital pusselbit till helheten och varje bit är lika nödvändig. När man lyssnar på skivan  så griper den verkligen tag i en och vägrar att släppa greppet. Från första låten ”T.F.O.W” till avslutande ”Hymn for a Burning world” är man fast.

Ultimate Disaster har med denna platta skapat vad som garanterat kommer att vara en av årets bästa plattor för min del. Jag kan dessutom tänka mig att detta kommer att vara en framtida klassiker, så bra är den. Bara att söka bland distros och skivbutiker och jaga rätt på vinylen.

Då plattan är så otroligt bra så skickade jag iväg ett par frågor till Billy som sjunger och spelar gitarr i Ultimate Disasten

Hi and thanks for a monster of an album. How has the response been for the album thus far?

Thanks for the kind words about the record. I think the response has been good in general so far. It's kind of hard to tell. A lot of stores and distros have stocked it, people have bought copies at gigs and some people have said nice things about it both in person and online, which is really kind of them. 

Please introduce Ultimate Disaster to the readers of Heavy Underground?

We're a three-piece hardcore punk band from Richmond, Virginia. I'm Billy and I sing and play guitar; Chris plays drums and Rachel and Joey play bass for the time being (splitting duties based on availability). 

How would you describe the sound of Ultimate Disaster and what are your influences?

Our influences are fairly straight forward and primarily come from the U.K., Sweden and Japan. It's all the bands everyone loves but hopefully run through enough of our own filter to not sound totally uninspired. Discharge, Varukers (“Another Religion, Another War” era), early Disfear, Anti-System, Disclose, Doom, various other bands that start with the letter “D,” etc. 

What’s up in the Ultimate Disaster camp right now. Any tours or festivals?

We just finished a four-day weekend on the East Coast (Baltimore, Philadelphia, Richmond and Raleigh) to support the record. We’re recording a comp song at some point this summer and then playing a handful of gigs in August both here in Richmond and out of town. After that: new songs, more gigs in and out of town and hopefully more tours.
